States into home decor

Hello !

I would like to share with you a simple and fun project today... It would be perfect for a desk (why not thinking about dad's day gift ?), and can be recreate with kids.

I painted a wood cube (DCWV) with azure paint by Folkart (Plaid), and cut post cards from the Stateside collection (DCWV) into square to fit the cube's sides. I adhere the postcards with Mod Podge mat. Told you it was quick and easy...

I made several projects with this collection, so stay tune to see more of it...

Have a nice day !

DIY dry erase board magnet

Hello !

I'm back today with a simple and fun project : dry erase magnet ! I made them with my daughter's locker in mind, but they're great on a fridge too... Here is what you will need to recreate these magnet : Dry erase paper and Embossed foil paper by DCWV,

I forgot to add magnetic ribbons on the picture for the back. You can use any kind of magnetic backing.
Start by cutting shapes with your die cutting machine in the embossed foiled paper. I used my Cricut, but it could be any kind of  die cutting machine.

Cut the same design in a smaller size with dry erase board.

Mix and match, adhere the magnetic sheet on the back et voila !

The lovely Megan from DCWV made a perfect pin for this project, as long as other great ideas on this Pinterest board.

Have a great day !

ATC for the More than Word mini challenge

It's my first participation in the mini challenge from More than World. It requires to use a word (this month : happy) on a card, tag or ATC, and has to be upload as a comment on their Facebook page.

It's also my first ATC ! How could it be ? I love tiny details and never try the smaller size of card ? Crazy !
Beside my husband is collecting MTG cards, and I didn't built my own collection ? Come on ! Let's start this...

I built the background in two layers, with two ivory ATC (Canvas Corp). One is misted with Wave baseboard paint, the other with Wave and Ivory baseboards (Tattered Angels). I used the mixmedia thinlit (Sizzix - Tim Holtz) on the wave one.
I made splatters with Iris baseboard, ivory DIY and decor paint and Black magic glimmer mist on both the ATC, then adhere the wave one on the other.
To add some more dimensions, I outlined the circle holes with white and black pen (Faber-Castell), and distress the edge with black sooth distress ink (Ranger).

The black flourish and the purple doilie are Sizzix dies, purple burlap by Canvas Corp, and stamp by Hampton Art.
I was able to create dimension with the satin ribbon (Hobby Lobby) using Fabri-Tac. This glue worked also well with the burlap and the sewing threads.

You have a week if you want to play with this challenge, so hurry up !

Have a great day !

Art journal page : Spread your wings

Good morning !

Today, I will show you the page I was supposed to post on Tuesday...
When I'm working with ink spray, I always have my journal nearby to use the leftover ink. I press the journal over the mat to retrieve the inks, and this make a great background for my pages...
On this one, you will find Party pink and Black magic glimmer mists (Tattered Angels) for the background :

The circles are made with a stencil (Umwowstudio) and Light gold High Impact paint (Tattered Angels). The title is just hand writed with a black pen (Faber-Castell).

The bird is a Inkadinkado stamp (Morphic birds), I just add some gray with Copic markers...

Let freedom, love, and creativity spread their wings today !
Wish you a fabulous day...

We are Bruxelles too...

This morning, I was about to show you an art journal page, but by the time I opened my computer, I read the terrible news. Bruxelles was hit. Twice. I don't have word for that, only tears. Again.
So instead of the page, I will share what I've done today...

The background is a Color and Create paper by DCWV, the stamp is a Gorjuss girl (Docraft). I colored with Copic Sketch markers.

Sympathy and love to my Belgian friends and to all of those who suffer from this awful strike.

Spring time ! An altered clock

Spring is here !

In fact, Spring is in my garden since few weeks now, but it's official today ! Let celebrate this new season with a flowery project !
I bought a cheap white clock and covered it with rolled flowers from the  DIY Paperie flowers kit by DCWV. The numbers were cut with my Cricut and the Ashlyn alphabet in peach cardstock, and I covered the background with a paper back denim sheet by DCWV.

I used leftovers of papers to create the smaller flowers.
I glued all of them with a glue gun.

Have you been creative today ? Spring is a real creative push-up for me, so you'll probably see a lot of project during the month to come...

See you very soon !

K&Company Envelope mini album

Few years ago, I made a mini album with K&Company envelopes an I never blogged about it. I think it deserves to be shared...

So this is the story. My brother in law and his family came to our house in Houston for vacations, and we went to San Antonio where we took a vintage family picture.
I loved this picture so much I made a mini , and each page of this album shows a close-up of this picture...

The cover and each page of this album are envelopes glued together. On the cover, you could see a crystals, flowers and leaves by Prima Marketing, metal embellishment by Recollections, alpha rub-ons by Making Memories.
On the first page you could see the original picture :

vellum frame and word by K&Company, rub-ons by Making Memories. All pages have a pocket (the opening of the envelope).

Chris is my brother-in-law. I called him the wild adventurer because... he's really not one. But he came to Houston !
His brother, Oli (my husband), work for an oil company, thus the oil robber nickname...

And here I am with with sister in crime (in law, ah ah!):

K&Company flower die cuts, Making Memories metal alphas, EK Success border punches.

My daughters, (Calamity) Jade above, and her sister Pearl.

The cousins : double shot or double trouble ?

I cherish this album, I hope you like it...

See you soon for another (more recent) project...

Mixed media Ken Oliver bookmark with Tattered Angels glimmer mists

Hello !

I received this week my new order from Canvas Corps Brands, and I did play with my new toys...
I ordered the new water media bookmark made by Canvas Corp for Ken Oliver and wanted to see how they react with glimmer mists...
So I choose the Weathered Copper - Bare Metal kit (Tattered Angels) to create the background. The paints inside the kit are really easy to use, you will find a step-by-step sheet inside to help you recreate the finish. Once the background dried, I applied Texturez Gold Mine paste (Shimmerz Paints) over a stencil by TCW. I added the resist alphas (Tattered Angels) sprayed with Verdigris glimmer mist (included in the kit) and some border sticker (K&Company) to finish the bookmark.

Here is the result :

A little close-up to see the texture and layers of inks...

If you like this bookmark and want to learn more about the process, let me know it in the comments section and I will try to make a video or a Periscope about it ! I just opened an account on Periscope so you can already follow me @ValerieAndrieux, I will start soon to broadcast...

Have a great day !

Prima Marketing PPP challenge

Hello !

I usually made a layout or a card for the Prima PPP challenge, but this time I did want to make something different. So I grabbed an empty chocolate box and transformed it into this :

I covered the box outside and inside with papers from the Second Wind collection, applied gesso with damask stencil on the center and with honeycomb stamp on the corners. I added touches of pink and tealk chalk over the gesso.
Flowers and metal embellishments were covered with gesso too, then inked with pink spray, or brown for the leaves. Some plum beads and grass minibeads, a burlap and lace ribbon and I was done !

Take a closer look :

List of materials :

- papers from the Second Wind collection (Prima Marketing)
- flowers (Prima Marketing)
- damask stencil (Prima Marketing)
- honeycomb acrylic stamp (Prima Marketing)
- flower centers (Prima Marketing)
- metal embellishments
- gesso
- Wedding pink, festival, tattered leather and crocheted doilie glimmer mists (Tattered Angels)
- Plum beads (Prima Marketing)
- Grass micro-beads (Prima Marketing)
- old rose and teak wall chalks (Prima Marketing)
- burlap and lace ribbon (Celebrate it)

Thanks for taking some time to look at my project, and have fun if you want to try this challenge !

Tim Holtz March tag

The new "mixing techniques" tag is up on the Tim Holtz blog and I jumped on my scrap table to create one !
The tag is mixing dimensional die cut and textures.

I follow the steps to create this tag, but I didn't have all the great materials from Tim Holtz. So I improvised a little bit... I cut a piece of mailing box and teared it a bit on the surface. I applied some gesso on it and sprayed Tattered Leather and Black Magic glimmer mists over it (Tattered Angels), then add splatters of Antique Gold high impact paint (TA).I didn't have the butterfly die, so I used a chipboard to draw it on the back, and cut it with a craft knife.

For the background, I covered ivory cardstock with tissue tape (Tim Holtz) and cut a tag with a Sizzix die. I cut another tag, and use two thinlits (Tim Holtz/Sizzix) to create the dimension. I adhere this tag over the one with tissue tape and add gelatos (Faber-Castell) as I didn't have the new distress crayons...

A small metal jewelry piece with a twine finished the tag. The word inside came from a Cosmo Cricket stickers sheet.

This was very fun to create, don't hesitate to try these techniques !

DCWV March layout challenge

Hello everyone !

The new March challenge is up on the DCWV blog and you can now play with this sketch :

I did play with it and made this layout with the Treasures stack :

The picture was taken 12 years ago, when we first move to Houston, Tx. This is my husband, his daughter and his Bandit...

Take a look at closer pictures :

I did cut the license plates and adhere them one by one with Scor-Tape ! But I love the collage effect !

You will have until the end of March to play with the sketches (yes there is another sketch for the card, see mine tomorrow...).
Have fun and see ya soon !

March Stuck?! Sketches challenge layout

Yeah March is here !

Means that Spring is only few days away ! It's time to think in colors with flowers in your hair !
Let's do that with a layout for the new challenge of Stuck?! Sketches :

I used the new Birds and Butterflies stack by DCWV. I was tempted by cutting this thread but finally decided to let it on the paper and complete it with flowers and butterflies cut from another sheet.

We have two sponsors this month at Stuck?! Sketches :

http://www.wycinanka.net/  and http://evalicious.bigcartel.com/

You can use this sketch to create a layout until the end of March and upload it on the Stuck?! Sketches blog :

Have fun playing with it and see you soon !
